APC Reverses Buhari On AIT, Says All Accredited Media Free To Cover President-Elect’s Activities

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reversed the controversial decision taken by President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to bar the Africa Independent Television, AIT, from covering his activities. The party said all accredited media organizations in the country, including the AIT, are free to cover the activities of the president elect. AIT journalists were on Monday denied access to Mr. Buhari’s temporary office when they showed up to cover his official engagements. His spokesperson, Garba Shehu, cited family and security concerns for the decision. “AIT has been asked to stay aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. “We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter, but for now the station has been asked to stay aside, because like I said there are some family and security concerns. They have been asked to step down their coverage until we resolve the matter with them on ethics and standard,” Mr. Shehu said. However, the party in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said the incoming Buhari Administration would not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls. The statement however enjoined all media organizations to observe the highest level of professional standards in carrying out their duties. ”There is a Code of Ethics guiding the practice of journalism in Nigeria, and this demands every journalist to ensure a strict adherence to the highest levels of ethics and professionalism in carrying out their duties. ”There must be repercussions, within the realms of the law, for media organizations which have wantonly breached the Code of Ethics of the journalism profession and turned themselves to partisans instead of professionals. But such repercussions will not include barring any accredited media organization from covering the activities of the President-elect,” the APC said. A lot of Nigerians had condemned Mr. Buhari’s decision to bar the AIT from his activities. Most Nigerian considered it an infringement on press freedom while some however view the decision as payback to AIT after they ran a series of documentaries maligning Mr. Buhari during the electioneering campaign prior to the election. A UK-based activist and strong supporter of Mr. Buhari, Kayode Ogundamisi, described the decision as a “disappointing”. Writing on his Facebook page, Mr. Ogundamisi said although it is understandable for the President-elect to feel aggrieved about the activities of AIT, there was no basis for Mr. Buhari to ostracize the television station. http://perfectbrandsng.com/apc-reverses-buhari-on-ait-says-all-accredited-media-free-to-cover-president-elects-activities/

He looked incredibly bright and sharp out there. Peter is a very good footballer and you don’t lose your football intelligence, even if you have had a serious an injury like he has had. “We will kick him on now and hopefully he will play a big part between now and the end of the season.” The Nigeria international joined Stoke from Cardiff City in January 2014. http://perfectbrandsng.com/osaze-close-to-tears-on-return-from-injury/

Between Airtel Wynk And MTN Music+, Music Lovers Now Have A Choice

Nigerians love for music cannot be quantified and Nigerian telecommunication companies are taking up the gauntlet by providing lovers of music an avenue to stream and download songs of their taste. With the recent launch of Aitrel’s Wynk in addition to the existing MTN Music+, it is eureka for music lovers, BABAJIDE OKEOWO writes. In the not too distant past, the right to online music streaming and download was an exclusivity of Spinlet, a Finnish mobile music download company with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria and Cape Town in South Africa. Having seen the potential and available market, Spinlet launched in Nigeria in May, 2011 affording music lovers the opportunity to download their favourite music, though, at a price. For example, a full album of M.I’s latest album, The Chairman sells for N1, 500 on Spinlet, a price music lovers claim to be too exorbitant while the same album goes for less than N700 on MTNMusic+. ‘Godwin’ a latest single released by Mavin Record’s sensational act Korede Bello sells for N125 on Spinlet, while you can download the song for free on MTNMUSIC+ by just having a MTN sim card and registering as a user on MTNMUSIC+. For Sola Durotimi, a music buff, his love for music is unquestionable. As an upward mobile young man, the need to carry his music on the go is something that had posed a problem because of the high cost of buying music online. According to him, I always like buying music online but, the cost of buying songs online is eating deep into my pocket. All that, is however a thing of the past, with the advent of online streaming and music download platforms from telecommunications companies. MTN MUSIC+ to the rescue For music lovers like Sola Durotimi, MTN Nigeria, a leading telecommunications company has made a platform available for music downloads for free or a token. The platform is MTNMUSIC+. MTN Music+ is a converged Music streaming and download platform, optimized for mobile and online access and is socially enabled to accommodate cross-user activity. http://perfectbrandsng.com/between-airtel-wynk-and-mtn-music-music-lovers-now-have-a-choice/

Fanta’s World of Play: Deploying Animated Characters for Brand Association

In order to stay ahead of the competition and explore more creative ways of connecting with their target audience, Brand Managers are resorting to animated characters in projecting their brands. It is in the light of this that Beverage giant Coca-Cola has unveiled its latest unique individuals that are diverse in personality and interest but bound by their passion for play, they make up the Fanta crew, present in all of Fanta’s recent messaging, which is heavy on the brand’s association with youthfulness, play and vibrant colour. Leader of the pack, Gigi, strikes a chord with all young people. Adventurous, brave, fiercely loyal, intelligent and strong, Gigi loves parties, sending texts and traveling, but she sings out a warning…don’t be late, don’t argue when there’s no point and don’t be a coward. Cool-dude, Tristan, is the style king of the Fanta pack. Dapper and suave, Tristan is self-confident, proud of his talents and cannot imagine a world without music, preferably blaring through his oversized headphones or flying off his DJ turntables at parties. Maude is the creative genius in Fanta’s Universe of play. Maude lives to play. Impulsive and artistic, the world is Maude’s dancefloor as she reworks a line from John Lennon’s classic hit “Imagine” and “Imagines all the players, living for the play”. The use of brand characters to personify brands and engage customers was made popular in the 1950s after global cereals brand, Kellogg’s introduced cartoon mascot “Tony the Tiger” for its frosted flakes breakfast cereal. Decades after his birth, “Tony the Tiger” transcends his role as a mascot for Kelloggs’ Frosties and is now an embodiment of the brand’s identity. So integral to the Frosties image is Tony, his absence on packaging raises questions of authenticity. http://perfectbrandsng.com/fantas-world-of-play-deploying-animated-characters-for-brand-association/

DSTV Defies Court Order, Insist On New Rate

In a flagrant display of contempt of court, the John Ugbe, led Multichoice Nigeria, DSTV, a premium satellite company has defied a court injunction restraining it from implementing the hike in price ahead of a hearing fixed for April 16, 2015. The case with the suit number FHC/L/CS/404/2015 filed in a Federal High Court in Lagos on April 2, 2015 and presided by Justice C.J Aneke had Mr. Osasuyi and Oluyinka Oyeniji as the plaintiffs who joined the National Broadcasting Company in the case where an interim injunction was issued to stop the satellite TV company from implementing the new prices. The court ahead of the next hearing on April 16, 2015 ordered the company to maintain the status quo and revert to the old price, an order the company failed to honour and went on to collect the new rate. One of the customers of the company Chukwudi Johnson had on the 9th of April, almost a week after the court injunction was given approached a Multichoice outlet at Ahmadiya in a bid to renew his subscription, to his surprise he was quoted the new subscription rate, when he told the attendant that there is a court injunction that the company should revert to the old rates, the attendant petulantly told him to go and pay the old rate to the court. In his words, ‘I was shell shocked when the attendant told me to go and pay the old rate of N1500 to the court that if I want to renew my subscription I should be ready to pay the new rate of N1800’ he said. Similar trips to various Multichoice outlets revealed that DSTV is flagrantly disobeying the court order. At the Multichoice outlet in Ikorodu, the sales attendant told www.perfectbrandsng.com that they were yet to get an order from the head office to revert to old price. In March, MultiChoice, owners of DStv and GOtv, announced a 20 per cent price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria to take effect from April 1, 2015. Thus, the subscription fee of DSTV’s Premium, Compact plus, Compact, Access, Family and extra view bouquets were all set to increase, as is the price for GOTV Plus and GOTV bouquet. It is yet to be seen the action that will be taken against DSTV for disobeying the court order. http://perfectbrandsng.com/dstv-defies-court-order-insist-on-new-rate/

BABAJIDE OKEOWO in this report looks at the instances of the monopoly enjoyed by Cable TV providers, the quality of services rendered and how these companies are bleeding Nigerians to death. Mrs. Iyabo Awe was at work when she got an SMS from her Digital Satelite TV provider, South Africa based Satelite Television provider Multichoice, the parent company of DSTV and GOTV that commencing 1st of April, 2015, there will be a 200 percent increase in the prices of all bouquet of the digital satellite television company. What that means is that the price of the GOTV Plus she normally subscribed to at the rate of N1500 will now go for N1800. She thought it was an April fool gimmick, but, alas, it was not to be. Multichoice had in a statement released on the 26th of February announced a 20 percent increase on all bouquet of DSTV and GOTV to take effect from 1st of April. The statement in part read that ‘Each year we review our fees so we can keep bringing you the latest and greatest in local and international shows and sporting events, and we do it first. Your continued support allows us to develop better products and services and we thank you for your continued support over the last 20 years and look forward to providing you more of the best entertainment’ the statement read. Two Lagos based legal practitioners, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji filed a suit before Justice Aneke of a high court in Lagos challenging the increase in price. With the suit number FHC/L/CS/404/2015, Justice Aneke granted an interim order stopping Multichoice from implementing the new price. He also ordered for the suit and the Interim injunction to be published in national newspapers. In the order given, Mr. Aneke ruled: “That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted to the parties to maintain the status quo restraining the 1st defendant (Multichoice/DSTV) from giving effect or enforcing its planned increase in cost of the different classes of viewing or programmes bouquet, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. “That an order is hereby granted certifying the plaintiffs’ claim as a class action for themselves as individual subscribers, other corporate subscribers, distributors and retailers of the 1st defendants’ services. “That an order is hereby granted restraining any other person whether individual or corporate from instituting any other action as may be related to the action against the defendant to prevent multiplicity of lawsuits pursuant to the appointment of the plaintiffs in the class action but may instead opt in or out of this action.” Aside the litigation, subscribers are waging their own personal war against DSTV with the threat of boycott.
